James K. Lawton II

Laboratory Supervisor | Environmental Scientist

I grew up in Wisconsin, where the outdoors was never something I “did” — it was just part of life. Over the years I’ve lived in two national parks, spent seasons hiking and exploring across the country, even finding myself hanging off granite walls in Yosemite more times than I can count. Those experiences shaped how I work: stay curious, stay steady, and respect the environment you’re in — whether it’s the backcountry hike or a metals run on the ICP.

I oversee laboratory operations, analytical chemistry, and data systems at Arctic Fox Environmental. My background spans environmental chemistry, method development, and regulated water testing, supported by formal training in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, and chemistry. I handle metals analysis, routine environmental testing, and the technical work that keeps our lab running smoothly and consistently.

Alongside the analytical work, I manage our LIMS environment and internal IT systems. I build tools, workflows, and macro‑driven worksheets that streamline reporting, reduce redundancies, and strengthen the reliability of our data processes. My focus is always on accuracy, clarity, and operational efficiency — making sure our results are defensible and ready for regulatory review.

Before joining Arctic Fox, I worked in environmental laboratories, industrial analytical labs, and R&D settings, giving me a broad technical foundation and a practical understanding of regulated testing environments.

I’m committed to maintaining strong analytical standards, supporting field operations, and ensuring our lab’s systems and processes are as dependable as the science behind them.

“Good workflows are like good reactions — clean, efficient, and not explosive … unless you’re a physicist.” 😊
